Here’s How You Can Join Max Holloway in Helping Keep Hawai‘i Fed

Though he may be from Waianae, Hawaiian MMA fighter Max Holloway represents all of Hawai‘i to the world when he fights on a global stage, and this weekend’s UFC 251 featherweight title rematch against Alexander Volkanovski is no different.

What is different is what will happen to Holloway’s fight kit when the match is pau. This year, thanks to the inspiration of some of his fellow MMA fighters, Holloway is auctioning off his fight kit and donating the money to the Hawai’i Food Bank on Oahu.

“My people, they need to eat in Hawaii,” Holloway said. “Unemployment right now is like 40%, so every single penny I make off of this auction is going straight to Hawaii Foodbank and I hope you guys can help me support my cause.”

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – Always giving back to the 808 – ahead of his UFC featherweight title rematch with Alexander Volkanovski (21-1), Max Holloway (21-5) announced that he will be auctioning off his fight kit from UFC 251 for charity. “My people, they need to eat in Hawaii,” Holloway said.

Here on the Big Island, we have Hawai’i Food Basket, which has been providing regular drive through donation opportunities for families during the current pandemic. To continue helping the people of our Island, we’ve put together a few ways that you can assist this wonderful local charity.

Volunteer at Hawai‘i Food Basket:

There are a variety of ways that you can use your skills to help feed the people of Hawai‘i. Opportunities include helping at the food warehouse, assisting with clerical duties, helping to plan events, as well as other opportunities. With the uptick in donation distribution, they especially need more assistance with putting together donation boxes and at the distribution events. Learn more about volunteering here.

Donate:

Sometimes the easiest way to help is to donate funds directly. Support a friend’s fundraiser if you see one on social media, support local businesses when they host percentage of sales fundraisers, or donate directly to the Hawai‘i Food Basket.

Host a Fundraiser:

Financial donations are important to any non-profit, especially right now, and a self-hosted fundraiser can make a difference to their daily operations. You don’t have to auction off a fight kit — something as easy as a personal Facebook fundraiser to a small (COVID-responsible) event can help put meals on peoples’ plates. If you’re hosting a fundraiser, be sure to register it here so that you can receive support from Hawai‘i Food Basket.
